Dubai Police add Porsche 918 Spyder to its elite stable of supercars
The Dubai police force is the envy of the world after adding a Porsche 918 Spyder to its stable of elite crime-fighting supercars.
The latest vehicle to join the astonishing police fleet is the most expensive Porsche available - selling last year for around $1.3million, only 918 of the hybrid vehicles were ever manufactured.
It will be used to patrol tourist areas and is equipped with all the latest technology including high-tech on-board speed cameras
Major General Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina, the Dubai Police Chief, said the car will be linked electronically with the command and control centre of Dubai police and shows the force's commitment to a sustainable environment.
Only a few months ago did the Dubai police force add three Porsche Panamera S E-Hybrids to its fleet.
The amazing luxury collection already featured a Bugatti Veyron, Lamborghini Aventador, a Ferrari FF, a Chevrolet Camaro SS, a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, a Bentley Continental GT, and a limited edition Aston Martin One-77.
The luxurious cars are part of a government-outlined police specification, released earlier this year, which ruled top-of-the-range cars are a necessity to fight crime in a city with so many highways.
Speeding drivers are even known to plead policemen to detain them and escort them to the station in their cutting-edge vehicle.
Officers will take a compulsory driving course then get their pick of the fleet.
Deaths on the road are a common occurrence in the UAE, with one person killed in a traffic incident every 26 hours.
The police announced a few years ago that anyone caught exceeding 125mph would face legal action and it was hoped the presence of 700bhp supercars would make boy racers think twice.
