What’s your history with this brand?
Giltrap Group imports and distributes Cupra for New Zealand via its European Motor Distributors arm. The North Shore location opened in mid‑2024 under general manager Paul Staples, whose background includes aftersales leadership at Aston Martin, Lamborghini, Bentley and technical qualification at Bugatti.
What will people see when they come into your dealership?
Breaking away from a traditional automotive retail space as we know it, you'll see high-end finishes like brushed metals, textured stone and natural woods with warm, earthy tones, feeling more like a premium lifestyle boutique than a car dealership.
What tools do you have to help people make their car‑buying decision?
The digital configurator aides in visualising model and trim combinations, plus a library of physical paint and fabric swatches.
Sales staff (led by Clint Gauld, sales specialist Jeppe Kjer and business manager Heather Larnder) can run finance comparisons, print spec sheets, and arrange lifestyle packs or accessories on the spot.
What’s the most interesting feature of your facility that’s not an actual car?
Our dedicated grooming team ensures showroom-level cleanliness during visits or after servicing, perfect for customers who want their car both serviced and detailed in one stop.
Let’s go out the back. How big are your service facilities? How many technicians do you have working out there?
The workshop is a state-of-the-art service centre with specialist diagnostic tools, tyre alignment and service bays. Factory-trained technicians ensuring genuine parts are used and procedures followed for all Cupra models.
We have two dedicated Cupra technicians while the overall site employs approximately 30 staff, including sales, finance, service advisors, parts, and technicians across both Audi and Cupra businesses.
Where’s a good place to go and test-drive from your location?
Located in Wairau Valley, conveniently close to the Northern motorway you can had head north on State Highway 1 for a mix of suburban and motorway driving —ideal for testing performance, ride quality, hybrid efficiency, or highway cruising.
What else is in the area that could make it a destination?
It’s a short drive to both Smales Farm and Milford Shopping Centre.
What plans do you have for the future?
The dealership will expand its electric vehicle offerings with the new Tavascan arriving soon, along with hybrid Terramar.
Hosting more community events and test drive days to provide further opportunities for potential customers to drive the Cupra range and introduce more digital sales tools (e‑showroom integration, virtual walkthroughs), to make the purchase process even easier.
