- First time in right-hand drive for Formentor VZ5.
- Audi-sourced 5-cylinder engine tuned to 287kW/480Nm.
- NZ price and availability to be announced this month.
One of the most talked-out performance Cupra models of recent years, the Formentor VZ5 will soon be making its New Zealand debut. "Soon" is as much as Cupra NZ will say, with timing, pricing and availability to be confirmed on March 23.
The VZ5 is a flagship model for the Formentor range, powered by a development of the 5-cylinder turbo engine that also powers the Audi RS3. It was also produced in the first-generation Formentor, but never in right-hand drive. This new version is limited to 4000 examples worldwide.
In the VZ5, the 5-cylinder engine delivers 287kW/480Nm. It's paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission and AWD.
The exterior has been sharpened with wider wheel arches, a newly sculpted front bumper, and a front splitter engraved with "VZ5". There are optional black carbon-fibre mirror covers and diagonal copper-accented exhaust tips.
Akebono 6-piston brakes come standard on the VZ5, with 20-inch alloy wheels.
Inside, the VZ5 has bucket sports seats and the premium Sennheiser sound system.
The VZ5 has also been confirmed for Australia - a different distributor to NZ, so one market doesn't necessarily translate to the other. But it's getting "fewer than 100" VZ5s in a first allocation, priced at AU$101,990 (NZ$122k) driveaway.
