New SEMA-bound prototype Mustang revealed by ZeroTo60 Designs
The 2016 Ford Mustang is one of the few current cars that still strikes the same lines, the same details and fixtures, and arguably the same soul and spirit as its ancestors from the mid-’60s.
Which in some ways might be why this newly unveiled Mustang by ZeroTo60 Designs might strike a particular nerve with the car-mad public.
Naturally, it's going to debut at SEMA in Las Vegas in a couple of day's time — a show tailor made for the automotive world's most crazy and wild four-wheeled characters. It's a place where boundaries are often tested, and taste is something most seem to check at the door.
This particular beast is called the GTT; standing for Grand Turismo Tribute. It's meant to emulate the Ford GT that was so successfully launched earlier this year to the high praise of virtually the whole industry. However the GTT has perhaps been a little ... ambitious ... in aiming for those lofty heights; its rear-mounted cladding looking a little like a body-kit scoured from the depths of eBay during a midnight bender.
Things are a little more palatable at the front, with the GT supercar's tusks replicated in a manner almost acceptable — arching up from the base of the front bar before connecting to make a huge mouth. Looking like a big handlebar mustache.
It's not entirely without merit. The valence that skirts around its base doesn't not look like that of a GT — ditto for the side vents, which I would hope are functional.
At the very least, the GTT does have performance to match its looks — the gaping jaw feeding air to a supercharged 5-liter Coyote V8, which develops 600kW. ZeroTo60 also added Brembo brakes, Eibach Pro Street S suspension, and Pirelli P-Zero tyres to improve the Mustang's already well noted handling characteristics.
All isn't entirely lost for the GTT. It is still currently a prototype, with the ZeroTo60 team having mocked up several alternative designs for the front and the year. With a bit of luck their trip to SEMA is an educational one and we see a revised car revealed later on. If it's your cup of tea, the GTT is scheduled to have a limited production run in 2017.
