Following the announcement of a new Supra at the Geneva Motor Show in March, Toyota have confirmed the highly anticipated sports car will make its international debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the United Kingdom this weekend, in camouflaged 'prototype' form at least.
Toyota say the new Supra will be faithful to its heritage as pure sports car, utilising the same front-mounted, in-line six-cylinder engine and rear-wheel drive layout as the last model which was in production from 1993 to 2002.
“Without question the Supra is an iconic Japanese sports car,” says Toyota New Zealand’s General Manager of Product and New Vehicle Sales, Neeraj Lala.
“The production car is closely aligned to the original concept, so the design and styling is going to be exceptional and a real head turner.”

“I’d start saving now, as the new Supra won’t disappoint the enthusiasts. We’ve already had customers offer to pay deposits to secure the first cars – such is the hype already surrounding Supra.”
The Supra prototype will be camouflaged in the black-red- and-white colours of Toyota Gazoo Racing and will be in action on the Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday of the festival, July 12, 13, 14 and 15.
Fans attending the festival will also have the chance to take a close-up look at the Toyota GR Supra Racing Concept.
Created by Toyota Gazoo Racing, this concept heralded the return of the Supra name when it was unveiled at this year’s Geneva Motor Show.

It explores the potential for a high-performance competition model, featuring dramatic bodywork built from lightweight composite materials, lowered suspension, racing wheels and cockpit equipped to competition standards.
The new Toyota Supra's was jointly developed with BMW. The two-door sports car will share the same chassis as the upcoming Z4 and will likely be powered by a BMW-sourced in-line six-cylinder engine, similar in spec to the M2 Competition.
Toyota expects its new Supra to reach the market during the first half of 2019
