Ford New Zealand have confirmed that one of their most highly anticipated off-roaders will land in New Zealand showrooms starting on October 1.

The Ranger Raptor is the new range-topper in Ford's Ranger line-up. We first laid our eyes on it  at the international launch in February, before getting a further sneak peek in June as Ford prepared their pre-production model for Fieldays.

Then of course we ventured to Darwin for a first drive; which underlined the Ranger's two most interesting points — its off-road performance and its 157kW, 500Nm 2.0-litre bi-turbo diesel engine. Click here to read our full debrief about both, and everything else we learned at the launch.

There are 250 Ranger Raptors slated to come to New Zealand in this first batch, with at least half of them having been pre-sold. We've contacted Ford to see how many are left, and we await their answer.

The Ranger Raptor is built on a unique frame – designed to take a lot more punishment during high speed off-road driving. The front accommodates strengthened shock absorber towers, while the rear houses a new bespoke coil over suspension setup with an integrated Watt’s linkage.

The dampers are manufactured by Fox Racing Shox, and according to Ford, cost ‘half a V8'.

Ranger pricing is set to start at $84,990.
