A 1934 Lagonda 16/80 Tourer T2 once owned by former Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone is up for auction. It's a very rare machine, one of just 261 on this chassis built between 1932-34.

Originally delivered as a 4-door saloon with a pillarless design, in 1991 it was fitted with the more desirable convertible-style T2 Tourer body, featuring 3 doors, a folding roof, and flowing lines by coachbuilder Kevin Roskruge.
Ecclestone acquired the Lagonda in March 1996 and kept it until 2008, after which the current owner brought the car to the Netherlands.
The auction is running now on Catawiki, an online portal for "special objects that fulfill people’s passions", until August 10.

Bernie Ecclestone is credited with transforming Formula 1 from a fragmented sport into a global spectacle (some might say corporation) by centralising TV rights, revolutionising team management, and securing the deals that made F1 a multi-billion-dollar empire. He founded the Formula One Group in 1987 and controlled the commerical rights until 2017.
He acquired the 1934 Lagonda at the height of F1's transformation and held onto it into his last decade as the head of the sport.
Reflecting on Bernie’s imprint, Franco Vigorito, Catawiki’s cars expert says: “Bernie didn’t choose cars casually. He chose symbols. This Lagonda is poised, powerful, and unmistakably British - just like him.”
