Plug in and power up: bp expands its EV charging network in New Zealand.

Christchurch Airport has become home to New Zealand’s first large-scale EV charging hub, developed by BP.

The facility features 12 high-speed chargers and serves as BP's first hub of this kind in the Southern Hemisphere.

The hub’s location near Christchurch Airport makes it a practical stop for a wide range of users, from locals to travellers hiring EVs. It also caters to rideshare drivers and business professionals. Alongside the charging facilities, the adjacent BP Connect Russley Road offers coffee, snacks and other essentials.

"We know our customers are looking for solutions to meet their changing needs – for some it’s continued access to reliable fuel, and for others it’s the ability to recharge quickly with multiple chargers available and get on with their journeys," said Haley Mahoney, BP New Zealand’s Head of Country.

Christchurch Airport’s Chief Executive, Justin Watson, highlighted the project’s alignment with sustainability goals. "Teaming up with BP on the Gigahub shows how strong partnerships can drive real progress in evolving transport solutions. The EV charging hub also aligns perfectly with our goals to enable sustainability across our campus," he said.

Since 2022, BP has rolled out 190 EV charging stations across New Zealand. This latest addition integrates with the BP charge app, enabling real-time updates on availability, pricing and speeds.
