Chinese automotive giant BYD is set to make a splash with its upcoming all-electric supercar, the YangWang U9. Previously reported with a staggering 820kW, the electric vehicle's (EV) power output has been further amped up to a mind-bending 946kW, placing it firmly in hypercar territory. However, this incredible power comes at a cost, with the car weighing in at a substantial 2.475 tonnes.
This hefty weight can be largely attributed to the U9's massive battery pack, which is essential for delivering its impressive performance. Estimates put the battery capacity somewhere between 100-120kWh, allowing for a claimed "competitive" range and fast charging capabilities. While specific details remain under wraps, the company is aiming for a range of nearly 500km and ultra-fast charging times.
The power is channelled through four in-wheel electric motors, each capable of independent torque vectoring. This advanced technology ensures optimal performance and agility, allowing the U9 to achieve a 0-100km/h time of just 2.1 seconds. This figure puts it in the same league as hypercars like the Bugatti Chiron and Koenigsegg Jesko, showcasing BYD's commitment to pushing the boundaries of electric vehicle performance.
