Bugatti beauty among those selling without reserve in RM Sotheby's latest collection

The RM Sotheby's website is a constantly gushing wet dream of remarkable motors from some of the world's most well-known manufacturers, thanks largely to the gob-smacking collections that the auction house often deal with.

The most recent of these is the Quattroruote Collection, which will go under the proverbial hammer one by one next month in Monaco (because, of course this would happen in Monaco).

The collection focuses mainly on Italian marques, but topping the mental wish-list isn't a by-the-book Ferrari or Lamborghini. It's a 1939 Bugatti Type 57, built by renowned coach builders Gangloff.

Once driven as a company demonstrator by former Grand Prix racer and soldier of the second World War, Jean-Pierre Wimille, the Bugatti features a number of indicators that it was a one-off piece — things like the sharply raked windscreen and the side-mounted spare wheel included.

Once painted black and yellow, the Type 57 is now cream and black; a reflection of an old but carefully weighted restoration made along the line.

It will go under the hammer sans a reserve, as will the rest of the cars in the Quattroruote Collection, which include Fiats, Austins, a selection of Citroëns, an exquisite 1930 Hispano-Suiza H6B, and a host of other highly sought-after vehicles.
