Raid the piggy bank ... Heroes from Bugatti and Koenigsegg are for sale
The Koenigsegg One:1 and the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport are both undoubtedly war machines. But they're different flavours.
The Super Sport blends deathly speed with layers of luxury. It has a livability to it that makes it look more approachable than it really has any right to be. The Koenigsegg on the other hand is more or less a nuke with wheels and funky doors that open weird. It's a demon on the track; a demon to anything that has to get out of its way, a demon to the time sheets, and a demon to the man or woman charged with controlling the steering wheel.
And now a prime example of each has come up for sale — both doing so on opposite sides of the planet.
In Arizona lies not only the last ever Bugatti Veyron Super Sport ever built, but the last Veyron Coupe ever built. Number 300. RM Sotheby's are selling it next month, with no price posted online (how's the saying go ... 'if you have to ask, you can't afford it'?).
Finished in white, the 2013 example is most likely to be one of the most expensive and sought after Veyrons on the planet. It's one of only eight Super Sports built to US specs, and it was displayed by Bugatti themselves at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show next to Veyron chassis number one. There's history here.
“As evidenced by documentation accompanying the car, 269 of the current miles driven were accumulated by Bugatti at Molsheim during Bugatti’s standard and extensive pre-delivery testing,” say RM Sotheby's in their listing.
“As a result, it is presented in virtually as-new condition. Since its delivery, it has been very well preserved and regularly maintained.”
Meanwhile in the relative peace of Surrey is this quite scary One:1. And just like the Veyron, this is a car with significant history behind it.
Chiefly, it's chassis number 00. That makes it the development car; the one that the other six ever made were based upon. And being a development car, it comes with plenty of baggage. It's done Geneva too, but more than that it's done Suzuka and Spa Francorchamps — snagging the production car record at both at a doddle thanks to 1400bhp and a top speed of 450km/h.
“This vehicle was used to debut the One:1 programme at the Geneva Motorshow in 2014, and it was the star of the show. No small feat for a small manufacturer competing with the most powerful names with the largest budgets in the industry,” say SuperVettura, who have the car listed for sale.
“However despite the project being kept a secret until the early days of Geneva, before arrival at the Motorshow, Koenigsegg had sold all 6 of the production One:1's.”
But unlike the Veyron, the One:1 has a price attached. How much? A neat $6,000,000USD — or $8.3million in New Zealand dollars.
These are two very, very special — and very different — cars. It will take an extremely large amount of money to buy one or both of them. Power to the buyers.
