You’d be forgiven for not knowing the name Praga Bohema - but the Czech supercar just elbowed its way into the record books, blitzing the Top Gear Test Track with the fastest lap ever set by a purely combustion-powered car.

Fast, featherweight and ferocious

Armed with a 3.8-litre twin-turbo V6 borrowed from the Nissan GT-R, the Bohema punches out 515kW and 725Nm after Praga’s custom fettling - complete with dry-sump lubrication, bespoke turbos and a titanium exhaust. 

And despite being down on outright power compared to hybrid hypercars, the Bohema’s secret weapon is its featherweight chassis and ruthless aerodynamic grip.

Tipping the scales at under 1043kg, it generates a jaw-dropping 900kg of downforce at 250km/h. That combination was enough to clock a blistering 1:09.8 lap time - just a whisker behind the 850kW hybrid Aston Martin Valkyrie’s 1:09.7 benchmark.

Helping the Bohema pull off this David-vs-Goliath feat? None other than Ben Collins - Top Gear’s former Stig, now a Praga test driver. 

According to the company, Collins drove the car to the track on road tyres, changed into his race suit, warmed up the rubber and went straight into the record attempt armed only with raw talent behind the wheel.

Customer deliveries of the Bohema quietly began in late 2023, with Praga set to hand over three more at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed. Just 89 units will ever be made, a nod to the company’s legacy since its founding in 1907.

With raw pace, track credibility and ex-Stig backing, the Bohema may be the fastest car you’ve never heard of - until now.
