Is BMW on to something with Proactive Care?

BMW has announced its groundbreaking Proactive Care initiative, a customer service offering that harnesses the power of artificial intelligence (AI) to identify potential service requirements before they become a headache for vehicle owners.

Available on all BMW vehicles equipped with BMW Operating System 7 or later, Proactive Care utilizes service-related data from the vehicle to anticipate maintenance needs, providing customers with timely assistance and ensuring their cars remain in optimal condition.

The concept behind Proactive Care is to adopt a digital-first approach. This means BMW owners can receive notifications through multiple channels, including the My BMW app, the vehicle's infotainment system, email, and even via a call from Roadside Assistance in more critical situations.

BMW will also provide self-help tips, such as guidance on installing over-the-air updates, ensuring customers can resolve minor issues on their own. Moreover, the automaker promises flexible support to guarantee mobility and can recommend the most suitable service centres for customers to visit.

Transparency is another key aspect of Proactive Care. BMW plans to keep customers well-informed about the service being performed on their vehicles. Customers can expect to receive videos detailing the work being done, along with information on the required tasks, estimated duration, and expected costs.

To take advantage of Proactive Care, BMW owners must have an active BMW ConnectedDrive contract and register their vehicle in the My BMW app. By doing so, they can unlock a new level of convenience and peace of mind in their ownership experience.

With AI becoming more ubiquitous by the day, it seems only a matter of time before more automakers follow BMW in providing AI-assisted maintenance solutions. But will it go as smoothly as BMW hopes?
