BMW have made their already bonkers two-door M2 even faster with the official release of the M2 Competition.
Headlining the new BMW M2 Competition is a new engine based on the power unit from the BMW M3 and BMW M4, providing a sharp increase in power over the outgoing 272kW M2.
The new 3-litre twin turbo six-cylinder engine in the M2 Competition delivers 302kW of power between 5,250 and 7,000 rpm, and peak torque of 550Nm between 2,350 and 5,200 rpm.
In the engine bay there's also new High-precision Carbon Fibre Reinforced Plastic strut and bulkhead strut for increased rigidity, and a motorsport-derived oil supply system. The cooling system from the BMW M4 Competition Package is also used with some adjustments.
An enlarged BMW kidney and a new front skirt with increased air flow aid the improved cooling system. In M2 Competition trim the kidney grille is finished in high-gloss Shadow Line black paint as standard, along with the side gills on the front wings.
The updated power unit propels the M2 Competition from 0-100km/h in 4.2 seconds with the optional M Double Clutch gearbox (a six-speed manual is also available) and onto an electronically limited top speed of 250km/h.
The new engine means the M2 Competition will use bigger brakes than its predecessor with 6-piston calipers clamping onto 400mm rotors on the front axel and 4-piston calipers with 380mm rotors in the rear.
M2 Competition will also feature a new dual exhaust system with electronic flap for control over noise levels.
The optional 19-inch forged alloy wheels are also available with the new Y-spoke design, and a new metallic paint colour - Hockenheim Silver - is exclusively available for the BMW M2 Competition.
A dark M Competition Badge graces the rear end of the car. The design of the new double-arm wing mirrors improves the aerodynamics and they are typically characteristic of the new BMW M2 Competition.
BMW M engineers have also adjusted the driving dynamics of the BMW M2 Competition to take its increased performance into account. The electromechanical power steering, the Active M Differential and the Dynamic Steering Control system have also been re-optimised.
Inside the cabin, optional M Sport bucket-style seats are available featuring an illuminated M2 logo. The standard sports seats are available with black leather upholstery and contrast stitching in blue or orange.
The M2 Competition is now available to order with first deliveries taking place in the second half of 2018.
