Kiwi drivers will now have access to new technology designed to give owners peace of mind when entrusting their vehicle to other users.
Available on new Volvo 90 series models, the Red Key activates autonomous safety functions on the vehicle to help ensure the car is driven responsibly when in the hands of valet parking staff, repair workshops or younger drivers.
When the car is driven with the Red Key, its top speed is limited, the Adaptive Cruise Control function is programmed to maintain the maximum distance to the car in front, and the maximum volume from the audio system is reduced.
The technology will also permanently activate a range of safety features, including BLIS (Blind Spot Information System), Lane Keeping Aid, Forward Collision Warning, Driver Alert Control, Distance Alert and Traffic Sign Recognition.
Volvo NZ general manager Coby Duggan says the new technology helps reduce the feeling of trepidation that can come with handing over one of your most prized possessions to a relative stranger.
“For those who regularly entrust their car to others, this new accessory will give owners the reassurance that their vehicle is being driven responsibly, no matter whose hands it’s in.”
Duggan says Volvo’s advanced technology includes the standard fitment of the firm’s semi-autonomous Pilot Assist feature, as well as the world-first introductions of Run-off Road Mitigation and Large Animal Detection.
The Red Key is available now to both new buyers and existing owners of Volvo’s 90 series cars, and can be purchased through Volvo’s authorised dealerships throughout New Zealand at a price of $340.
