Audi New Zealand is bringing back sedan versions of two popular performance models, the RS 3 and S5. The pair are currently only sold as hatchbacks and Avant wagons respectively (the S5 was formerly known as the S4); they have not been offered in sedan form since 2018.

RS 3 is the baby of the RS range, but with arguably the best engine: a 5-cylinder.

It'll be a "one-off, limited run" says the company, although it hasn't specified numbers. The cars are available to order now and should arrive before the end of the year.

According to Greg Leet, general manager of Audi NZ, the decision was fuelled by a spike in interest during the global release for each: “Our dealer network has been fielding enquiry from all corners of the country regarding the sedan variants of each model.

"It will be a true nod to our heritage to see an Audi sedan available once again – even if just for a limited time."

S5 sedan is based on the new S5 Avant, which was launched in NZ in March. Starting at $147,990 (same price as the S5 Avant), the 3.0-litre V6 quattro model delivers 270kW and accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 4.5 seconds.

It's a 3-box look, but the S5 sedan actually has a... hatchback.

While the shape is that of a sedan, the S5 has a rear hatch, which the company says is a "completely new sedan concept" for the 4-ringed brand.
