UK SURVEY FINDS MEN WHO DRIVE A FAMILY HATCHBACK ARE DEEMED DESIRABLE
Forget an expensive Porsche sports car or a cute Mini, if you want to attract women you should drive a family hatchback.
The Vauxhall Astra, badged Holden Astra in New Zealand, will make you more desirable to the opposite sex, a new UK survey suggests.
It sounds like the slogan for a particularly bad 1970s car ad, but British women are most attracted to men who drive Astras, according to a new study.
The research was carried out by money-saving website VoucherCodesPro.co.uk, which polled 2787 single British women aged 18 or over.
Initially, respondents were asked whether they judged potential male partners on the kind of car they drove, and 78 per cent said that they did.
Those who did were asked to list the reasons they felt it was important: 56 per cent apparently saw a nice car as a sign of wealth and financial security, 27 per cent said men with nice cars tended to respect themselves and women more, and 22 per cent claimed they could judge a man’s personality based on his car.
In addition, 18 per cent said the car a man drives reflects his maturity level and 11 per cent said they loved cars and were looking for a man that shared their passion.
Finally, those involved were shown a wide selection of cars and asked to list which they found the most attractive for potential male partners to drive.
The Astra was put first by 24 per cent of respondents, beating the BMW 1 Series into second (19 per cent) and the Audi A3 into third (14 per cent).
George Charles, marketing director of the company, said: “I would have expected a sports car to come out on top, but it shows that you don’t always have to splash out to get a car that could attract a future partner. Perhaps driving an Astra shows to a woman that a man is stable and looking to settle down?”
Heads up Kiwi men, the all-new Astra arrives in New Zealand mid-2016.
