Aston Martin has stepped up their performance game and revealed their most ambitious convertible yet - the DBS Superleggera Volante.
Utilising a 5.2-litre twin-turbo V12 similar to the one used in the DB11, the Volante can shoot to 100km/h in just 3.6 seconds. The power plant produces a massive 553kW and 900Nm of torque — more than enough to blow your hat off with the top down. Just like the hardtop version, the Volante tops out at 340km/h.
While it has taken most styling cues from its hardtop sibling, Aston Martin revealed that the Volante features deeper side strakes that reduce lift at high-speed, and adds stability.
To add even more down force at the rear end, a revised Aeroblade II system works with the trunk mounted spoiler to keep things nice and planted. All up, the Volante produces 177kg, an impressive number considering that the coupe only manages 3kg more.
Performance aside, the retractable roof that is comprised of eight different layers and comes in eight different colours is the other draw card of the Volante. At 14 seconds, it's a bit slow off the mark compared to the car that it's attached to.
The personalisation options don't stop there either, the Volante is the first car from Aston Martin that is offered with a twill carbon fibre finish on the windscreen frame. you can also apply this finish to the tonneau cover and the "rear waterfall" if you wish.
Looking at the interior, a sporty steering wheel and the Alcantara upholstery are the main drawcards. Heated front seats and the eight-inch infotainment system in the dash are a couple of cool aspects as well.
Though the DB11 was unveiled over here just a couple of years ago, New Zealand pricing is yet to be announced, but fans can expect to see it on our shores later this year.
