New Zealand have long been starved of a direct injection of America's most famous sports car (sorry Mustang), but that doesn't stop us from celebrating each new brawler that gets released with the Corvette name attached.

The latest is the highly anticipated new 2018 ZR1, revealed earlier today at the Dubai Motor Show.

Numbers, then. The new ZR1 is powered by a supercharged 6.2-litre LT5 V8 that makes 563kW of power and a flabbergasting 968Nm of torque. Buyers will have the choice of pairing that powertrain with either a seven-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic.

Acceleration figures weren't discussed at the launch, but top speed is a confirmed … 337km/h. Yikes.

The former includes what Chevrolet calls a “downforce-enhancing front underwing”, and the latter adds a front splitter and an adjustable high wing. The high wing is supposedly good for another 430kg of downforce on the Corvette's rear.

Grip won't be a problem too, in theory, with the addition of a Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyre and magnetic suspension on each corner as standard.

Pricing will be confirmed closer to launch, though don't expect any of it to be local ...
