Alpine has lifted the wraps on its second all-electric model, the A390 - a sharply styled, all-wheel-drive (AWD) sport fastback that aims to merge A110 agility with five-seat practicality and zero-emissions power.
Built on Renault Group’s AmpR Medium EV platform and assembled in Dieppe, the A390 sits at 4.6m long and delivers its punch via three electric motors: one up front and two at the rear.
More wattage, more seats, same Alpine soul?
The A390's triple-motor setup enables Alpine’s new Active Torque Vectoring system - designed to tweak torque across the rear axle in milliseconds for sharper cornering and enhanced control.
Two versions are on offer, with the GT producing 295 kW, hitting 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds and topping out at 200km/h. Meanwhile, the GTS ups that to 345kW and 808Nm, sprinting to 100km/h in just 3.9 seconds.
Alpine claims repeated full-throttle runs won’t faze the A390’s powertrain - even with less-than-full battery charge.
French flair meets racetrack flair
Design-wise, the A390 wears its intentions on its sculpted sleeve.
From 110m, you spot its coupe-like silhouette; at 110mm, you’re admiring intricate bonnet channels and lighting details like the ‘Cosmic Dust’ front signature and Alpine logo projections. A subtle A110 silhouette even hides in the windscreen corner, if you know where to look.
Inside, it’s all driver-focused performance meets premium tech. Twin digital displays (12.3-inch instrument, 12-inch infotainment) anchor a cockpit swathed in leather, Alcantara and Devialet’s high-end 13-speaker audio system.
A red ‘Overtake’ button on the wheel delivers a 10-second power boost - handy for overtakes or just showing off. And yes, there’s one-pedal driving, launch control and even Alpine Drive Sound to mimic torque feedback through audio.
A sports car in a sensible suit?
Despite its performance bonafides, the A390 doesn’t skimp on practicality. There’s a roomy boot with up to 532L of capacity, proper adult-friendly rear seats, and an 89kWh battery enabling up to 555km of range (WLTP, pending approval). DC fast charging tops out at 190kW, with 15 to 80% reportedly achievable in under 25 minutes.
Trim-wise, the GT leans toward refinement, while the GTS gets more aggressive with forged 21-inch wheels, Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres and Sabelt bucket seats.
Both versions offer Alpine’s Telemetrics suite - including real-time performance data, track-day coaching and even video overlays via smartphone.
As Alpine CEO Philippe Krief puts it: “The A390 is the quintessential Alpine … equally suited to everyday use and more spirited driving.”
Time will tell whether buyers agree - but on paper, it’s shaping up to be more than just an A110 with a family plan.
