Hyper rare Ferrari icon goes under the hammer on Craigslist
US classifieds website Craigslist doesn't exactly have a great reputation outside of America. When I hear its name, I tend to think about people selling drugs through coded listings or serial killers luring victims to their obscure property in the middle of nowhere with the promise of a cheap unlocked iPhone or a new toaster at ‘wholesale cost’.
I don't think of 2.2-million dollar Ferrari F40s. Never.
Yet, this one was listed on the site for a cool USD1.59-million. And despite the ‘interesting’ choice of classified website, it appears to be completely legitimate.
A 1990 model, the left-hand drive F40 has only got 2,000 miles on the odometer. That might sound a little 'too good to be true', but this F40 proudly been awarded Ferrari Classiche Certification; signifying that the car's authenticity has been recognized and verified by Ferrari themselves.
The F40 is of course considered one of the most hallowed nameplates in the history of Ferrari as it was the first road-legal car to eclipse the 200mph barrier. It was also the very last car that the late Enzo Ferrari signed off on before his death in 1988. Only 1,315 Ferrari F40s were ever made, and this is probably one of the better examples.
Sadly the F40's listing was in the process of being taken down at the time of writing, meaning either that the buyer had located a buyer, or that the listing's time on the site had come to a close. The same seller still has a 458 Spider for sale if you feel that way inclined.
Personally? I prefer using more trusted classified sites for my car-buying needs — like the one on Driven.co.nz!
