- Leaked photos reveal the radical replacement for the beloved Audi TT.
- The new sports car will share its underpinnings with the next-generation Porsche 718 Boxster/Cayman.
- The tie-up follows on from Porsche and Audi's previous collaboration on the Taycan/e-tron GT EVs.
Audi’s next-generation TT successor has been leaked ahead of its imminent reveal, with images posted to Audi’s Canadian social media feeds and then quickly retracted, according to Autocar.
The successor vehicle to the TT, which will pick up the reins of the now-discontinued design-led Audi sports machine, is meant to be a hallmark moment for the brand.
It will debut a new design direction for Audi and is said to share its underpinnings with the upcoming next-generation Porsche 718 (Boxster and Cayman).
This will mean migrating to VW Group’s new high-end Scalable Systems Platform (SSP), which is designed for higher-performance applications.
This Porsche/Audi tie-up will follow on from the Taycan/e-tron GT, which both share a unique J1 architecture.
The new SSP platform is expected to support 800-volt electricals and serious performance credentials, which will debut on the new 718 that is due to be revealed imminently. It will add to a range of recently-launched new platforms for Volkswagen Group, which include the PPE and PPC pair (Premium Platform Electric and Combustion), which were designed expressly for use by Audi and Porsche for vehicles like the new Q5 and Macan.
The new TT, which is only shown in profile for now, reveals a coupe rather than a convertible and has lines reminiscent of the original-generation, which was celebrated at the time for its simple, curvy design.
It also has a hint of other previous Audi designs, like the R8 in the distance between the rear door and wheel arch. The simple strip lights in its face and tail feel familiar to the recent Jaguar concept vehicle.
Its silver arrows-style colour scheme is seemingly deliberate, as Audi’s racing vehicles in the iconic 1930’s colour scheme (under the Auto Union marque) are hinted at in a teaser video posted by the brand to its social media feeds in the lead-up to the TT’s reveal.
Expect to learn more about the TT in the coming days as the car is expected to be shown at the Munich motor show.
