Aston Martin has announced it will produce a limited run of 99 Vanquish Zagato Coupes, following “unprecedented customer interest” in the Vanquish Zagato concept that was unveiled in May.
The product of the British car maker’s long-running partnership with legendary Italian design house, Zagato, the new model is the fifth car to be born out of a collaboration that stretches back over five decades.
Staying true to the concept, the Vanquish Zagato Coupe features design elements inspired by various models in the company’s line-up, including ‘bladed’ LED tail-light technology from the Vulcan track special, wing mirrors similar to those developed for the One-77 hypercar and a profile resembling that of the new DB11. The distinctive round LED daytime-running lights have also made it to the production version.
Iconic Zagato design features on the new limited-edition coupe include the round tail-lights and the iconic ‘double bubble’ roof – a Zagato trademark since the 1950s, intended to accommodate drivers’ racing helmets.
The entire body is shaped from carbon-fibre, featuring significantly less split lines through the use of large one-piece panels.
Inside, the Vanquish Zagato features unique interior trims and finishes, including carbon-fibre and anodised bronze – with the option of aniline leather – finished fascia, air vents and rotary dials, along with Zagato ‘Z’ quilted leather on the seats and doors, and the Zagato ‘Z’ embossed on the headrests and stitched into the centre console.
Powered by an uprated version of Aston’s 6.0-litre V12, the Vanquish Zagato pushes out 592bhp (441kW), which can propel the the coupe from 0-60mph (0-96km/h) in a claimed 3.5 seconds – making it 24bhp (18kW) more powerful than the ‘regular’ Vanquish and one-tenth of a second quicker for the benchmark sprint.
Deliveries for the exclusive model are to commence in Q1 of 2017, with reports saying all 99 Vanquish Zagato Coupes have already been ordered.
