Are you a fan of air-cooled Porsches and Hollywood movies? Well then a very unique event taking place on the 5th of October in Los Angeles might be the thing for you.

Luftgekühlt 10 is, as you may have guessed, the 10th running of a unique car show that originally grew from an informal gathering of air-cooled Porsche enthusiasts (Luftgekühlt is German for 'air-cooled') at the Deus Ex Machina shop in Venice, California has established itself as a must-see show by presenting classic Porsches built between 1939 and 1998 in unique locations that are often as interesting as the cars themselves.

Previous events have taken place in such diverse locations as the Port of Los Angeles, the Gahal Lumber timberyard, the Indiana Bottleworks district and the Mare Island Naval base in Vallejo, California.

This year the event is returning to one of its previous locations, the fan-favourite setting of the Universal Studios backlot where Luftgekühlt 6 was held in 2019, when it was referred to as “The most ambitious car show in the world.”

As you might expect, tickets sold out extremely fast, with attendance limited by the venue, and many enthusiasts were left without tickets, so organisers decided to head back to the location to celebrate the event's 10th anniversary, but this time with a much expanded footprint to allow more people to experience the one-of-a-kind event.

And it certainly is one-of-a-kind, as visitors will be able to explore the Universal Studios Backlot, populated by hundreds of classic street and racing Porsches all parked on iconic movie sets. Familiar street scenes and some new spaces will serve as the backdrop for showcasing some of the world’s most significant Porsche models.

Luftgekühlt was co-founded by Porsche factory racing driver Patrick Long (who has had class wins for Porsche at all the "big four" sportscar races: Petit Le Mans, the 12 Hours of Sebring, Rolex 24 at Daytona and the 24 Hours of Le Mans) who, along with Creative Director Jeff Zwart, has personally reviewed each car entry, handpicking some of the "best and most intriguing submissions" to be featured in themed areas throughout the backlot.

Over the past decade, Luftgekühlt has grown from a modest gathering into an event that attracts a global audience and the 10th anniversary event looks likely to cement its reputation amongst Porsche enthusiasts as a must-see.

Luftgekühlt 10 takes place on the 5th of October 2024 and tickets are on sale at luftgekuhlt.com now and start at a surprisingly reasonable US$95 (NZ$154) and children under 12 will even get in for free.

If you are over that way in October, then you know what you have to do...
